The Ontario Medical Students Association (OMSA), representing over 4,000 medical students across Ontario’s seven medical schools, has raised concerns regarding the Government of Ontario’s recent changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Beginning in Fall 2026, provincial OSAP grants will be capped at 25% of funding, with at least 75% provided as loans, marking a significant shift from the current model where grants may comprise up to 85% of provincial assistance.
Given the uniquely lengthy and financially demanding pathway of medical education, these changes may increase financial strain on learners and risk creating barriers to training a diverse and sustainable physician workforce in Ontario.

The Ontario Medical Students Association (OMSA)
