We were honoured to have celebrated this year’s 11th annual OMSA Wellness Retreat in-person on March 3-5, 2023 at Camp Kintail. The weekend greeted us with clear skies giving us the opportunity to explore the outdoors near Lake Huron with activities ranging from high-ropes course, rock-climbing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and several hikes along the beach. We also enjoyed team-building exercises, trivia, candle making, and some late-night karaoke.

We are so honoured to thank all our sponsors for the OMSA Wellness Retreat. This incredible weekend would not have been possible without these talented businesses, institutions, and people.

We hope to see you all next year!

We were honoured to have celebrated this year’s 10th annual OMSA Wellness Retreat in-person on May 20-22, 2022 at Camp Eden Woods, Haliburton. The weekend greeted us with bright blue skies and the warm sun to help us kayak, canoe, hike, and learn archery. Crafts, tie-dye, and team-building obstacle games paired nicely with the encouraging words from Dr. Eric Crawford. His dialogue will continue to impact the culture of medicine for years to come.

Wellness, workshops, activities, new friends, new experiences, all in a three day experience at the 5th Annual Wellness Retreat that took place on March 24th – 26th, 2017 at the Briars Resort & Spa by Lake Simcoe. Over 120 medical students from Ontario’s six medical schools attended the event. Check out what you could experience next year!

The 4th Annual Wellness Retreat took place on March 4th – 6th, 2016 at the Briars Resort & Spa in Jackson Point, Ontario. Over 100 medical students from Ontario’s six medical schools participated in the festivities. The video below highlights some of the activities that the students enjoyed!

The 3rd Annual Wellness Retreat took place on March 27th – 29th, 2015 at the Briars Resort & Spa in Jackson Point, Ontario. The event had a comprehensive agenda including several workshops geared towards promoting wellness and personal development. These included leadership-building activities, self-reflection, relaxation techniques, physical wellness and coping with stress. The retreat’s goal was to educate and motivate the medical students, guiding them in the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle and a renewed sense of health and well-being.

OMSA has always been committed to the professional and personal development of our membership. Across the province, medical schools are recognizing learner wellness as a growing concern. Medical student wellness involves maintaining physical, mental, emotional and social fitness amidst the many demands of a medical education. OMSA continues to set the bar across the country in the establishment of innovative opportunities and initiatives for medical students.

Over 80 medical students from across the province gathered at the Briars Resort & Spa in Jackson Point, Ontario on March 21st – 23rd, 2014 for the 2nd Annual Wellness Retreat. The event continued the dialogue about the importance of wellness amongst medical students. The event included healthy food, campfire, yoga sessions, outings in the snow, and wellness related talks. The medical students were extremely happy about being able to take a break from the academics of medical school and relaxing with their peers. OMSA thanks the organizing committee for another successful Wellness Retreat!

The 1st Annual Wellness Retreat took place on March 22nd – 24th, 2013 at the Briars Resort & Spa in Jackson Point, Ontario. The event opened the dialogue amongst medical students about all aspects of wellness.  OMA President Dr. Doug Weir came out to the event along with members from the PHP, and MD Financial. Topics such as Depression, Burnout, Financial Wellness, and Nutrition were discussed.  These guests were sandwiched between healthy food, yoga, meditation, wilderness walks, and boardgames. OMSA thanks everyone who participated and made the weekend as memorable as it was!
