The Art of Wellness: Perspectives of Two First Year Medical Students
It is with great pleasure, and a slight bit of trepidation (I’m not used to writing about myself!), that I start off this series of blog posts about wellness. In the coming weeks, you will hear from my colleagues on the OMSA Wellness Committee - a group of driven individuals who are passionate about the self-care and balance in medical students - about their views on wellness.
This is the second post of a special three-part OMSA wellness series, featuring guest writer Dr. Sarah Luckett Gatopoulos, a PGY1 in Emergency Medicine at McMaster University. At the third annual OMSA Wellness Retreat this past March, she facilitated a fantastic workshop entitled ‘The Portable Workout’.
The Vitals team conveys their thanks and appreciation to ALL of the medical students who supported them in the first year of their initiative. For more about their project, visit their site.
Relaxing is a foreign word to us as medical students, we are always on the go with our never ending 'to-do' lists, traveling for electives, traveling for conferences, increasingly more and more paperwork and always trying to do our best.
Waitlists seem to be the story of my life. Waitlisted for an earlier appointment, waitlisted to get into medical school, and of course, waitlisted for the Wellness retreat. But, when I finally received the offer via email the week of the retreat I didn't know what to make of it...
Considering that I don't respond very well to change and last minute plans, I was both excited and stressed.
