Leadership Summit & Annual General Meeting

Leadership Summit (Saturday, May 11, 2019)

The OMSA-OMA Leadership Summit is a day of speakers and workshops where students will hear about leadership in medicine. This conference will help you learn more about your own leadership style and to network with your future colleagues. Investing in your leadership potential early in your medical career is one of the best decisions you can make.

The theme of this year’s leadership summit will be "Diversity in Medicine", featuring physician leader Dr. Carys Massarella as our keynote speaker. The summit includes discussions and workshops that will be followed by a networking reception and dinner. This will provide an opportunity for delegates to reflect on the day and socialize with their colleagues.

The applicants selected to attend the Leadership Summit will also be attending the AGM (see below). Accommodation for two nights (May 10-12), as well as travel and meal expenses are fully reimbursed for out-of-town delegates. Details on booking travel and accommodations will be provided for all delegates once selected. Please note that students studying at the University of Toronto St. George Campus will not be eligible for hotel accommodations given their proximity to the event location.

Where: OMA Offices, 150 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON

How to Apply:  An application is required to be accepted for attendance. All medical students in Ontario who are members of the OMA are encouraged to apply to attend the Leadership Summit by submitting a 300 word letter of interest on why you are interested in participating, as well as a CV. Please leave out identifying information and current medical school from the letter of interest and CV. Please submit your application using this form. Applications will be accepted until May 3, 2019, but acceptances will be sent out on a rolling basis, so apply early!

Annual General Meeting (Sunday, May 12, 2019)

On Sunday, we will also be hosting our Annual General Meeting (AGM) where we will have open forum discussions about medical student priorities and set the vision for the upcoming year. Please note that the OMSA AGM and OMA Section of Medical Students AGM are conjoined.

The AGM meeting will include the election of the 2019-20 Executive Council and provide attendees an opportunity to learn about OMSA's work this year, to contribute to Lobby Day topic planning for next year, and to provide input into prioritizing and focusing our advocacy work in the upcoming year.

All Ontario medical students are encouraged to attend, regardless of participation in the Leadership Summit. You can attend the AGM even if you are not selected as a delegate for Leadership Summit. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Where: OMA Offices, 150 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON
