We have an exciting opportunity for you that you won’t want to miss. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is launching its inaugural Medical Student Ambassador Program and will be inviting 10 Ontario Medical students to take part, which happen during the CMA’s annual General Council (GC) meeting in Ottawa from Sunday, August 17 – Wednesday, August 20.

The CMA is heavily interested in learning more about medical student priorities and needs. They also aim to build a stronger connection with them. As a Student Ambassador, you will be expected to actively participate in GC by sharing your experience (i.e. via social media, networking, etc.) and talk about the benefits of CMA membership with fellow students upon your return to school.

Benefits of the Student Ambassador Program

Your attendance at General Council presents a unique development opportunity for you to participate and experience this significant annual event. It is a rich learning opportunity on key issues of importance to all Canadian physicians. There are also excellent networking opportunities, including several evening social functions. In addition, special learning and networking activities have been added as part of the Student Ambassador Program to further maximize your learning and networking opportunities, beginning with a kick-off orientation dinner on Sunday, August 17.

General Council Attendees

GC attendees include CMA Members (physicians from across Canada), CMA Board of Directors including student Board representative Jesse Kancir and other members of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS), invited guests including senior government officials, CEOs and senior staff of a variety of health care organizations, staff from Provincial and Territorial Medical Associations and affiliate/associate societies, among many others.

Expenses

In an effort to make your attendance as cost effective as possible, the Canadian Medical Association will cover your costs for the 3 days, as follows:

Hotel: 3 nights at a downtown Ottawa hotel (Westin Ottawa or the Chateau Laurier) - August 17, 18, 19

Meals: All meals will be covered from Sunday dinner until Wednesday lunch, with the exception of your Tuesday dinner

Application and Selection Process

If you are interested in participating in the Medical Student Ambassador Program, please complete the application form no later than Monday, July 14, 2014. CFMS will review the list of applicants and in partnership with the CMA, select 10 students. Selection will largely be based on what you expect you will gain from participating in this Program and ensuring representation from across Ontario. You can expect to receive a follow-up response by August 1, 2014 indicating the status of your application.

We hope you are as excited about this opportunity as we are. This is an event you won’t want to miss. If you have any questions, please contact Jennie Ding from the CMA (E-mail: jennie.ding@cma.ca, phone 613-731-8610 x2102).
