OMSA EdCom's Abstract to CCME on Student Engagement in Mentorship has been Accepted

Some of the current and former OMSA Education Committee members had submitted an abstract titled "Evaluation of Ontario medical students' preferences and engagement in formal mentorship programs" to the Canadian Conference on Medical Education (CCME) 2018, and it has been accepted for a poster presentation. They are presenting the results of an Ontario-wide medical student survey designed to examine student preferences and engagement in formal mentorship programs in Ontario medical schools.

I woke up on Thursday September 18th to the most incredible mix of anticipation and disbelief. It was actually here. This was the day that an incredible team of Queen's students had relentlessly planned and worked towards for the better part of 2 years. It was the beginning of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students Annual General Meeting 2014 - and we were the hosts! Reflecting on Wellness Retreat 2014

Waitlists seem to be the story of my life. Waitlisted for an earlier appointment, waitlisted to get into medical school, and of course, waitlisted for the Wellness retreat. But, when I finally received the offer via email the week of the retreat I didn't know what to make of it...

Considering that I don't respond very well to change and last minute plans, I was both excited and stressed.

Preparing Future Medical Leaders

Advocate, actor, comedian and author Rob Hawke led a Dynamic Speaking for Leadership workshop for students in the Leadership in Medicine Elective (LiME) on February 4. 

Hawke — who is an alumnus of Second City — is a respected patient advocate who draws upon his own experience as a cancer patient. His one-man show, "Norm versus Cancer: A Terminally Funny One Man Show," was nominated for a 2011 Canadian Comedy Award. 

OMSA Lobby Day is A-Coming!

Last year I had the opportunity to attend OMSA's annual Lobby day. This day is actually part of an entire weekend where OMSA not only lobbies for an important issue in healthcare, but gives medical students a crash course in leadership and political advocacy.
